Hello everyone,
I’m a biologist with a degree with environmental science master and I’m moving to Nova Scotia end of this year. I want to know if there a farm or project of Greenwave in this area. To help out ? Work ? Learn everything about kelp farming ?
Warmly
Charlotte Stas
@chastas You might want to try Shorefast in Fogo Island who are trying to set up kelp farming there. Turquoise Revolution is in St Stephen

@chastas Yes! There are ~12 operations that hold seaweed cultivation permits, but most of them are shellfish producers with multi-species permits and I don't think any of them are producing kelp at a significant scale at this time (less than 3000 kgs as of 2023).

You can pull permit data from the provincial database or Fisheries and Oceans Canada. But I also recommend checking out the Kelp Kurious project by the Ecology Action Centre and possibly connecting with LeBlanc Seeded Lines, who have supplied some farmers in Nova Scotia and also helped a startup farm in Newfoundland & Labrador (where Shorefast, which @steven_hermans mentioned, is located). EAC and LeBlanc will probably have some insights into what's happening on the ground. Universite Sainte-Anne also holds permits to produce kelp seed for R&D sites.
