Alaska Ocean Farms is hiring a hatchery technician in Kodiak!
The work will center around production of kelp seed spools for an upcoming research project. No prior experience is necessary and all training will be provided. The position will necessitate beach harvest of fertile kelp material and some boat work. The position will require some lifting of objects up to 25 lbs., working in a temperature controlled environment (50 F), using laboratory equipment (microscopes, water quality instruments), and exposure to saltwater and cleaning agents. The dates are flexible but work would be scheduled to begin the last week of August-First week of September. The pay is $25/h for up to 150 hours. No prior experience is necessary. Open to applicants 18 years of age and older. This is an excellent opportunity to learn the workings of a kelp nursery operation.
