Lead the nation in algal research by registering for the AlgaePrize! The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) AlgaePrize 2023-2025 Competition challenges students to become the next generation of bioeconomy professionals by expanding novel solutions to production, processing, and new product development on the way to gigaton-scale algae commercialization.
By competing, you have the opportunity to support the nation’s biofuel research, algal commercial enhancement, and promote industry-driven education, training, and workforce development. During the competition, each team will present their research to a panel of expert judges and the Grand Champion team can receive a cumulative total award of $35,000 in prize money and national recognition. Team registration and 500-word abstracts are due on Wednesday, November 1 at 12:00pm ET.
Win incredible prizes on top of national recognition!- Finalist teams win $10,000 (awarded up to 15 finalists)
- Champion teams win an additional $10,000 (awarded to 5 Champions)
- Grand Champion team wins an additional $15,000 (awarded to 1 Grand Champion).
What are the first steps to success in the AlgaePrize Competition?
- Review the 2023-2025 Official Rules - the official rules document provides a framework for research work, submissions, and judging evaluations
- Register your team - please follow these guidelines or watch this tutorial video to learn how to register. Each team must consist of at least 2 student members enrolled in a U.S.-based educational institution and 1 faculty advisor employed by a U.S.-based educational institution.
- Submit your 500-word abstract by the deadline of Wednesday, November 1 at 12:00pm ET.
