Uptake of Heavy Metals?

Heavy metal uptake in seaweeds is a major concern for customers I have spoken to in food/nutraceuticals. I wanted to know if anyone here has best practices for water quality testing and testing seaweed - which metals, what levels are permissible, and how to test. Looking mainly at red/green species like Ulva, Gracilaria, Caulerpa, Kappaphycus. Thanks!

Permissible heavy metal levels will vary based on location and end-use, so I recommend looking up specific regulations in your area. GreenWave compiled a list of tests you may wish to run on your seaweed. This is a starting place, but again it will vary by market and location. I'd also recommend looking at the edible seaweed regulatory framework in Europe to give you an idea of permissible levels there.
