Seeding lines with Ecklonia radiata
-
Hi there,
just wondering if anyone in the community has experience seeding lines with Ecklonia radiata and can point me in the direction of literature on the subject?
We have an R&D lease approved in Augusta western Australia and are starting the process of getting a hatchery set up to start growing in September.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Kind regards,
Paul

Hi Paul,
Waikato university in NZ are trialing E.radiata in the Coromandel up on the North Island. I am hoping to speak to someone involved in the project in a few weeks to ask the same sorts of questions for growing it here but as far as I know they followed the Greenwave model for growing sugar kelp, as per the Getting started/farming seaweed training on this hub. I am not sure of any progress yet or how the species and NZ conditions have changed the model but will hopefully know more mid May. I will try to remember to update on here when I know more.
Cheers,
Colin

Hi Paul,
The University of Waikato in New Zealand is conducting a bunch of work on Ecklonia radiata (https://www.waikato.ac.nz/eri/algae/publications). @rebecca_lawton is the best point of contact.
Cheers,
Dave
