Working with Kelp in NYC
-
If anyone is interested in getting involved with kelp I've been helping the folks at the RETI Center grow kelp at their site on the waterfront in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The kelp lines are already in the water but there is always stuff to do at the site and there will be harvesting in May. This kelp is not intended for consumption but will be used to make bio-gas, cement, and plastic. If you're interested you can e-mail me: jrealmuto@gmail.com
@justin_realmuto Very interested and thanks for the heads up. Is the permitting different for non food uses?
@jack_mason Hi Jack. I don't know. I wasn't involved in the initial planning stages.

Hey Justin,
Glenn here responding to the post on GreenWave site. Live locally in bklyn and I'm interested in learning more about kelp farming and would like to help out and get some hands on experience. Appreciate the work you and RETI are doing.
@glenn_soans Hi Glenn. Thanks. E-mail me at jrealmuto@gmail.com and I can share more details.
