Located in Southeast Louisiana and looking for any leads or connections with ocean farming..

Hi there, everyone! I know Green Wave's curriculum focuses on cultivating cold-water species and there's not yet a curriculum for warm-water species, but I figured I would just put this out there just in case. Is there anyone or has anyone heard anyone in the Gulf states (I'm in Southeast Louisiana) cultivating seaweed? With some digging, I was able to find was a research study: https://projects.sare.org/project-reports/gs16-165/, but no one who is actively cultivating. I do plan to reach out to the folks involved with this study, but figured I'd ask around here as well.
@amy_stone Hi Amy, good question! There's lots of interest in cultivating warm water species, and several discussion threads on the Hub. You might check out some of the work being in Florida and Puerto Rico by Dr. @loretta_roberson and Dr. @gretchen_grebe. They've chimed in on previous threads here. And there was recently a Florida Sea Grant webinar about seaweed cultivation in the Gulf. I've attached the agenda below, and here is a link to the recording! Hope that helps. Good luck with your research!

I can add that our partners in Tampa, FL, Two Docks Shellfish, have just started growing seaweed and as far we know, are the first and only commercial seaweed farm in FL and the Gulf. Hopefully it is just the first of many.
