Kelp Farming Insurance

Hello!
My farm is starting its first attempt at growing kelp this winter and we were just wondering what insurance looks like for the crop? Reading through some of the FSA stuff now, but if anyone has resources or personal experiences with this I'd love to hear about them. Thanks so much!

I don't think many kelp/seaweed farmers retain crop insurance at this time. Rather, it is more common to retain general liability/food liability insurance or related insurance packages you need to sell food products. I know that some CT/southern New England based farmers have used the Food Liability Insurance Program (FLIP) to sell at farmers markets and other venues.

@haley_braner I ran into a USDA representative at a recent conference who was doing outreach to aquaculture operators around crop insurance. They were focused on shellfish but encouraged seaweed farmers to get in touch.
