Greenwave Inspiration for Europe
-
Dear Ocean Farming Hub Users, a message in priority for European colleagues (but everybody is invited!)
The European Commission, the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) and a consortium of sustainability consultants and algae organisations have launched a European algae stakeholder platform, called EU4Algae. The aim of the platform is to accelerate the development of a European algae industry and promote algae for nutrition and other uses among consumers and businesses in the EU.
EU4Algae wants to encourage new entrants to set up and develop seaweed farms on European shores. In order to understand how to best assist them, Greenwave kindly accepted to share this survey with their Ocean Farming Hub's users.
The survey should not take you more than 10 min to fill in and can be found here:

We thank you very much in advance for your time and insights!

Thanks very much, Adrien!
I'm based in Greece, and a couple of organisations here have just started a research programme into sustainable fish farming, with a mainly hybrid approach at the moment. This hub should prove invaluable. I will investigate, and also try to update members here once I learn more.
Thanks for sharing!
@adrien_vincent
Thanks very much for sharing this information, ADRIEN!
And thanks to the Greenwave Hub for your interest in supporting us. We are still at the very beginning of our journey into kelp farming, and having had a brief look at the questionnaire, I don't feel able to answer all the questions yet. We just read an article in a Greek newspaper regarding sustainable fish farming in Greek waters, and intend to contact the research team involved to see if they can give us advice on the situation regarding permits, etc.
The current situation here seems to be a hybrid setup - a traditional fish farm supported by kelp banks. We need to gain more information on this, to see how feasible it would be for us to be exclusively kelp and shellfish. I will gather more information first, and then answer the questionnaire. The good news is that people are beginning to take an interest here.
As soon as I have more concrete information, I will update everyone here in the hub. I really appreciate everything you're doing!
