Kelp Farming in Jamaica Bay

Hello! My name is Danielle and I live in Rockaway Beach and work in sustainability/food systems! I am very interested to explore the idea of farming Kelp in the Jamaica Bay. I also work on the urban farm in Edgemere and make various value-add products. Does anyone in this group know anything about the permitting system? I have done some research but have mostly seen Long Island. I am also looking for more folks who are interested and live in the area!

@danielle_schwab we sold seed string to laguardia community college last season for research in Newtown creek. I believe the Moore Foundation was behind the permitting so you might want to reach out to them, or go directly to Wade Carden or Jennifer O’Dwyer at NYS DEC for info.
