Should I outplant these spools?
-
A CT farmer hung their spools off the dock while waiting for permits to come through in January and fear they may have perished over the 4 weeks while they were waiting for the permits. Wondering if they look healthy enough to outplant. Attached are pictures of one of the spools. The side with growth on it is the top and the clear side is the bottom.

GreenWave Answer: It would still be worth trying to outplant the spools. We're having a tough time telling if all the growth is kelp or not, but if those are all blades then you can try. The bald side of the spool will cause bare gaps on your line, so just look out for biofouling during the season on those spots. Certainly the spools are not ideal, but you might still get growth.
