Tensioning The System
-
During the off season for kelp, it's important to check both anchor systems for chaffing or gear that has been compromised. After inspecting/replacing the gear, the anchors need to be set and tensioned into place.
One anchor should be set farther into the farm, the other anchor should be set on the perimeter. This will shorten the distance between the two anchors to make the dummy line connection in the skiff. After the dummy line has been connected, the anchor that is set farther inside the farm will be towed and tensioned into its proper location. The system will be fully tensioned with the mid buoy and two anchor buoys create a straight line at the surface.
