Would like some help
-
hello everyone,
My name is Chris and I would like to get as much knowledge from you everyone as possible. I live in Gearhart Oregon right next to seaside. What I want to creat is a kelp preserve with my working kelp farm right next to it. I also would like to start my own Hatchery in the garage. So really any help or direction would be welcome.
@christopher_graetz -Hey Chris. I might be able to offer some assistance on the hatchery as I’ve set one up in my garage.

@christopher_graetz - Hi Christopher. Welcome! I'd recommend checking out some of the courses in the Hub designed for aspiring farmers like yourself. In particular, you might be interested in the site evaluation course where we describe the process of figuring out where and how to site a potential farm lease. I'd also note that at the moment, (to my knowledge) Oregon does not currently have any active in-ocean seaweed farms. (I believe there are a few operations farming dulse in tanks on land.) So going through the process of getting your site approved may require some extra grit and determination, since the state doesn't have an established precedent.
If you have your heart set on developing a kelp hatchery. We've got some great resources to guide you through this process, check those courses out by switching your home dashboard from "Ocean Farming" to "hatchery" in the top left corner of the dashboard screen. Here's the link to the first course in that series:Introduction to Kelp Hatcheries.
@christopher_graetz -I'd love to come help you sir. I'm a commercial diver currently residing in Washington state. If you'd like some input and assistance please feel free to reach out to this email address: njensen.pus@gmail.com
Take care and have a great day!
