@john_koene - Hi John! I am from San Anselmo. There used to be a company that partnered with Hog Island Oyster Co. but they had to move their seaweed farm to Alaska for permitting reasons. I think current permitting does not allow for farming (there are a few other groups in Tomales and further north that forage and package seaweed). If you hear about any groups that are farming in the area I would also love to know!
@carrie_wentzel - Hi Carrie and @john_koene, GreenWave was able to get a small farm permitted in Humboldt Bay last year, in partnership with Humboldt University. I'll let our California permitting expert @karen_gray chime in to give you more details on what ultimately led to that success, but I know it was a long and arduous bureaucratic journey. @john_koene - Hello John! Good to see you here. Thanks for joining the community! Looking to you to take the lead on setting up a seaweed farm in Marin. Right now (as you already know) Tomales Bay is the hotspot for oyster farming so there's certainly room for improvement.
@carrie_wentzel Hello Carrie and John (and thank you for the shout out @lindsay_olsen) by now hopefully you've had the chance to flick through the guide. Do let me know if you have questions at all! ~Karen
