Currently a passive house builder looking to make a shift into starting a regenerative ocean farm in Coastal Maine, I pride myself as being a waterman first and foremost. I grew up spending my Summers in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, where I eventually became the program director for The Quissett Yacht Club Sailing School. Additionally, I attended Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island, where I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education. Surfing, sailing, and fishing are long running passions of mine, and have been the catalysts for my deep connection with the ocean. As a weather nerd and a self-proclaimed student of marine navigation, I feel the most alive when I am immersed in nature and embracing all the gifts and challenges that the sea has to offer. Most importantly, passing on a healthy planet to the generations who follow has been and will continue to be a top priority of mine.
My older brother turned me on to GreenWave in 2017 after he toured the Thimble Island Ocean Farm in Connecticut. In 2019 I bought a house in North Yarmouth, ME, and the prospect of becoming an ocean farmer was barely a consideration at that time. After a handful of orthopedic surgeries, the wear and tear of being a builder started to seem unsustainable for my body. Although recovery from injury has its hardships, there are also silver linings. One of those silver linings is my newly found pursuit to join the GreenWave community and become a full-time ocean farmer.
I would love to connect with any members in this community who reside in New England, specifically Maine, whether they be experienced, beginner, or soon-to-be ocean farmers. I will be starting from scratch, utilizing these incredibly rad resources that the freshly launched hub has to offer.
Thank you for a great introduction yesterday, GreenWave! I look forward to connecting with many of you, face-to-face and remotely, in the near future!
@alex_lord happy you're here and so great to see you already posting around the community! Thanks for helping us get off to a great start!

So I propose we get through at least half the training material and actually meet. Either by zoom or in person. If in person, are people interested in meeting in a community center or perhaps King Eider’s Pub (both in Damariscotta). What towns do people live?
When-June 1st, July 1st, August 1st? (Any other dates people prefer? Mid week, Week End?)

Hi Alex, thank you for sharing your journey. I'm adding other community members looking for connections in Maine here!
Hi @amy_quinn , @todd_azadian, and @kristine_albers!
If I missed anyone, please comment (or tag them!) below.
Excited you are all here!
@alex_lord -Anyone interested in meeting up somewhere in Midcoast Maine to compare notes? I’m happy to host in South Bristol, or we could find a pub somewhere. Mid June - after the rookies have a bit of time to start the class videos and those who are further along have time to do the early season stuff out of the way?
@todd_azadian - That sounds great Todd. Feel free to shoot me an email to connect.
