Hey there,
We have been loving playing with the farm designer tool. Just wondering if there are plans to internationalise the app? If the code is opensource, I'd be happy to contribute some time to have a look at implementing internationalisation.
Cheers
@paul_english - Hi Paul! Thanks for your note. We're still charting out what our next adaptations for the Farm Design Tool might be, and I'm interested in your feedback. Can you tell me more about what you wish the tool could do? (Have permitting costs from other countries, list variables in metric, be relevant for warm water species, etc.) Where are you finding that it's coming up short for your context. Also looping in @jwhis (GreenWave's Platform Product Manager) as I know she'll want to hear your feedback as well.
Thanks @lindsay_olsen , and @jwhis feel free to reach out. At this stage we have started our own application process, but keen to learn as much as we can about farm layout and budgeting so it would be great to have the units of measure selectable between Metric and Imperial. (Mental conversion from inches/feet/yards to cm/m can be tricky)
Currency conversions would also be great to get an idea of costs.
Cheers and keep up the good work!

@paul_english - Hello there! So happy you like the tool - we think it's pretty cool too.
Internationalization is certainly on the table, and incorporating metric is in reach probably in the next year due to the other projects we're prioritizing. Just keep in mind that even with metric the tool still would only apply to locations/habitats that support sugar kelp as it only models that species.
For an open source Farm Design Tool, we don't have the capacity at GreenWave to manage it as an open source project at the moment. It's certainly a dream though! I would love to see models for different species and farming methods. It's a combination of getting the tech and the right subject matter experts in the room to get that done.
For different currencies - we're actually not planning on converting that as we don't want to mislead anyone as the prices displayed in the gear list are an average of listed gear prices at three US based marine supply stores. Since price can vary from country to country, I'm hesitant to directly convert USD to another currency.
Lastly, if you're developing your own app, I highly recommend reviewing the Using the Farm Tool lesson, especially the limitations.
Let me know if there's any other feedback or questions you have!
