Swapping coasts to start an ocean farm
-
Hello Greenwave!!!... and cheers to what you have launched and to this entire new community! I've made a up a career both as a chemist, and supporting land-based progressive farms on both coasts and for years now..and I am so, so tired...But this program and the release of this support has inspired me with so much energy and I can't wait to get out to the water to start an ocean farm! This is really a dream opportunity come true... at almost the halfway point of my life....a chance at truly fulfilling and meaningful work on and for the ocean!!! I'll be starting my search for a spot via Camden ME, I will be glad to help anyone along the way!!! can't wait to learn all this interesting and amazing stuff that's been collected for us....congratulations to all of us for heading in this direction, I can't think of much better one! And HUGE thanks again for all at Greenwave and its partners and supporters!!
@kristine_albers -Hi Kristine! I'm looking to start a farm next year also in Northern Massachusetts or Maine and was hoping to visit someone's farm in the area soon.
@victoria_marquez -ill keep in touch and let you know when I get out there!!
@kristine_albers - https://www.pressherald.com/20... ~ hope you can make the trip down to Portland! Would love to connect.
@alex_lord -heya alex!! I'm not quite out there yet, but I did listen to Maine Calling Show this morning on NPR stream featuring the producers of the Seaweed Week Festival that may be on the archive list as of now for April 21, at 11 EST, and it was really interesting to get a listen ro what is going on...Looks like seaweed food culture is being both rediscovered amd reinvented which is great to hear. As I was searching for the term seaweed on Mainepublic.org, I noticed that there is a large push and have already been fights over who has the right to harvest/forage wild seaweed.. which is an issue really concerning to all of us who see the importance of thoughtful and regenerative seaweed farming. I'm truly horrified at the thought that there may be people out there who see wild seaweed forests as a new profitable and unlimited resource to be harvested on a mass scale. As we all move forward, we need to make sure to keep watch and speak up when we can to stop this from happening. Local public radio stations can really provide us with some information and a handle on what's going on socially and politically in a particular region in respect to seaweed.

@kristine_albers - thanks for the info on the NPR talk. I'll check it out for sure! I agree with you on all fronts. Keep it local with small scale, independent regenerative ocean farmers. Looking forward to connecting when you get out east! Camden is an amazing area.
