Hi from Norway! I wish to know more about the possible negative enviromental impats of oceanfamring.

First, congratulations on the launch of the hub. Truly a great tool for learning and information sharing. I reacently finished Bren Smiths book "Eat like a fish" which very much inspired me to learn more about ocean farming.
This leads me to my question i have about possible negative environmental impacts that could be the result of oceanfarming. As you envision uppscaling this sector, could it suffer from similar impacts found in other types of farming, like land based monoculture or aquaculture? Furthermore, are there any measures in place to take site specific carying capasity into account through the means of e.g., environmental monitoring and evaluation?
Looking forward to learning from everyone!
@erlend_tveit - Hi Erlend!
I know this Danish company "Dansk Tang" - making seaweed here i Denmark.
Since they startet they are working very closely with DTU (Danmarks Teknologiske Universitet) about climate impact and so on. Some of the things they share on their website (https://www.dansktang.dk/)
Maybe there's something for you there?
@kasper_krogh - Thank you! I will check this out!
@erlend_tveit - Definitely a necessary consideration! Here is a UN policy brief for seaweed aquaculture that lists some of the learnings and potential problems in seaweed aquaculture. Modification/changing of natural local gene pool / selective breeding is one of my top worries.
@jamie_lee - Thank you, this is a very interesting read!
