Kelp farmer/Writer looking to interview farmers and fishermen in the Gulf of Maine

    Hi there!
My name is Eliza, and I'm a new kelp farmer and (less new) writer. I just planted my first line in my hometown of Belfast, ME, and I've been working as a playwright and educator for about 5 years, in New York, LA, and Portland, OR. Currently, I'm getting my MFA in Playwriting at the Michener Center for Writers at UT Austin. In my newest project, I've chosen to bridge my passions for theater and aquaculture by creating a verbatim play about what's changing on and in the water in the Gulf of Maine. Which brings me to you!
If you farm or fish in the Gulf of Maine, I would love, love, love to interview you and hear your story. How have you seen the waters change? What have you learned? What makes what we do so special? What brings you to the water? All interviews can be anonymous or not-- it's completely up to you-- and would be conducted over zoom or on the phone.
I'm particularly interested in speaking to female and immigrant farmers and fishermen, but would love to hear from anyone interested in sharing their story with me. As many of us know, the Gulf of Maine is warming at a rate almost 90% faster than the rest of the worlds oceans, and the people out there working these waters can teach us so much about climate resiliency, not only in Maine, but all over the world. Your stories are valuable, unique, and timely.
If you or someone you know is interested in talking to me, please please reach out! You can simply reply here, or email me at ef23537@my.utexas.edu
So excited to hear from you, and I hope you're all having a good start to grow season!
