The Mi’gmaq Wolastoqey Indigenous Fisheries Management Association (MWIFMA) is a not-for-profit organization bringing together the Micmac Nation of Gespeg, the Micmacs of Gesgapegiag and the Wolastoqiyik Wahsipekuk First Nation. The MWIFMA wishes to develop commercial partnerships to sell its seaweed produced at the Paspébiac site in Gaspésie (Québec, Canada).
We mainly produce Royal kombu (Saccharina latissima). We are open to producing other types of seaweed upon request. In the past, we have produced Wakame (Alaria esculenta) and Dulse (Palmaria palmata). We still have some dried wakame and sweet kelp left over from the last harvest (2025).
We are considering starting co-cultivation of seaweed and scallops. We would like to know if there are other companies that have done co-cultivation of seaweed and scallops? We would like to share our experiences.

@joelle_aghamw you may be interested in connecting with @mary_williams at Ecotrust Canada. Mary has been supporting a regenerative ocean farming project with the Metlakatla First Nation in Prince Rupert, BC. The project has evolved over the past several years, but did include a scallop and seaweed component. While I understand that the provincial regulations may vary from Quebec to BC, Mary may have some insights on regulatory and operational aspects that could be of value to the MWIFMA. You can connect directly through the hub via direct message. Happy to connect you via email as well.
