What should be done in the situation that mold is appearing after the sugar kelp fermentation process?

@nick_mercer15 can you share briefly about the fermentation process you're using and the end product you're producing?

@grace_collery We tried two different methods; 1) 60 degrees celsius for 30 minutes and 2) 75 degrees for 8 minutes
    We're researching making biostimulant.
    Thank you!

@toby_sheppardbloch do you have any insight?

@nick_mercer15 Your temps are too low to sterilize the kelp. Some microbes remain that will cause the mold. If you know the microbe that makes the biostimulant you are looking for, then you need grow that separately in pure culture and sterilize your kelp. Heat sterilize your kelp in an autoclave (120C for 30min) or boil the kelp at 100C for 20min, let rest then repeat 2 more times (3 treatments total). Apply your microbe to the sterilized kelp and keep at ideal conditions for for the fermentation.
If this leads to lower biostimulant yield, then you need to alter this method or find a different way to ferment and get a mold free product. For example, using bleach or peroxide solutions. Note there could still be microbes within the kelp that are not killed with these methods, but they may not be an issue for your fermentation, but could lead to variations in fermentation results.
I am assuming the active biostimulant you are looking at requires fermention with microbes here and it cant be extracted in an active form from the kelp. Extracting the active precurser, then doing a smaller fermentation could be possible here, but care must be taken not to degrade the biostimulant or its precursor while doing this type of processing.
    Hope this helps, good luck
