I'm a shellfish farmer, also in Mass, I've thought about your post for a couple weeks. Sometimes I think about finding commercial or even novel species of seaweed near my farm and then culturing it from sporangia at home and then growing out on the farm. Irish Moss is one I would like to try, but then, it's a lot if time involved! I's be interested in hearing what a good strain should have for growout in land. I am curious about your plans.
@rory_mccarthy What kind of system do you propose using? Tumble culture with aeration is best for seaweeds such as sea moss. I would source it from your local waters, by going to the rocky intertidal zone of your coast at low tide
@rory_mccarthy you might want to check out Cultured Supply to find a source of sea moss.
