Community-based restorative ocean farming in Mexico
-
Hello everyone!
I hope this comment is not too off-topic, but I could use some help! My name is Maria, and I've been working for the last four years on developing a community-based restorative mariculture project in Sonora, Mexico. I'm currently working with a native species of sea cucumber, but I'm looking towards expanding into polyculture with bivalves and other native inverts. I'm interested in learning more about polyculture and sustainable sea ranching and looking for recommendations on the subject, especially on universities, because I'm considering doing a Ph.D. I would appreciate it if you could recommend universities, colleges, papers, programs, courses, people I could contact, or anything else! It would be very appreciated.
Abrazos!
maria

@maria_chaparro9949 Hi, Maria. Regarding a PhD, I would reach out to Juli-Anne Russo at the Caribbean Aquaculture Network, she can direct you to programs that might be a good fit. https://www.caribbeanaquaculturehub.com/about. As for whether you should do one, there's NO QUESTION your intellect and effort are much needed. Mariculture IS the future, in the Caribbean there is so much need for research. I know a PhD is a big commitment and takes resources, but if you can, do it!
Also recommend you connect with Dr.Arlenie Perez Rogers at University of Belize, ERI, arogers@ub.edu.bz. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=898220079. She has done the majority of sea cucumber research in Belize.
