Cleaning freshwater lakes?

    Hello,
I currently live in the gratelakes region and almost all of the lakes and rivers are suffering from nitrate over exposure. I come from aquaponics and all of that nitrogen waste can be used to grow plants like seaweed or other aquatic plants. Has anyone on here investigated large indoor seaweed farms? Like Costco sized? I just started a Aquaponics non-profit and I’m looking for a buisness parter. I am a scientist and I don’t have time to learn enough about buisness to feel safe. Yet anyways. I do know that all of the produce here is terrible in the winter because it all comes from Mexico after being picked way too early They also live eating fish out of the lakes and rivers but more than one fish a year is very bad for you health. I see a very sustainable buisness opportunity here.
    Warm wishes,
    Garrett Rodgers

@garrett_rodgers1739 This is a super interesting topic. Purely an intrested individual so I have nothing to provide in the way of partnership but curious how many people on here have experience with farming seaweed in a lake? Can it be done?

@garrett_rodgers1739. The main problem I see with this idea is that Seaweeds can't really grow in fresh waters. I am pretty sure to make it work, you would have to use a green algae. Maybe you can grow Spirulina which is a green-blue algae.
I am from the Toronto area, is that close to where you are located?
    Thanks
    Julien
