Asparagopsis Taxiformis
-
We have started to grow Asparagopsis taxiformis for feeding to cattle, sheep and goats to reduce methane emissions.
We are looking for markets and investors to start this process. We have the basics but need to ramp up the supply. Over 500,000 tonnes is our target to grow and process. Target markets are USA, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Hi,
I am interested in learning how I can help and what place the kelp business might become part of my life. I am retiring from one business and want to be involved in some way to help the planet, the ocean in particular; repair itself. I have started a plastic awareness business and am currently focused on finding funding to do research on plastic microfibers in the brain. I have broad-based knowledge that has brought me to the value of kelp and mushrooms a possible food source. I am looking to get a small fresh quantity of kelp to study in the kitchen.
I would be interested in helping kelp farms scale their businesses as I am an engineer and have a good ability to solve and develop processes that streamline points of friction. I have small amounts of money that I might be interested in sharing with like focused stewards as well.
Thanks for your work, might it grow beyond our wildest dreams.
Walter
Hi @dennis_barron -
That’s exciting to hear! GreenWave currently focuses on cold water species like sugar kelp, skinny kelp, alaria, and bull kelp. However, there are many exciting opportunities utilizing seaweed for methane reduction and animal feed.
For markets, I’d recommend reaching out to livestock breed and farming associations. It could also help to narrow down your target customer a bit more, which will help you create a more targeted product, associated messaging and outreach. For example, you could focus on serving farms that raise grass-fed or pasture-raised animals, or who have certain animal welfare standards. These types of farms will have different supply needs than industrial factory farms. You should also consider what size partner is best for you right now, and your timeline for scale. Smaller farms won’t be in a position to buy significant volumes today, but they may more nimble and be better suited to growing alongside your startup.
As for investors, there are quite a few oceans-focused investment groups emerging - Propeller is one to look at as well as VC accelerator programs like Katapult. You might also consider searching for VCs that refer to themselves as in the “climate tech” space.
