Lab Testing Your Seaweed

GreenWave complied a working list of some recommended lab tests for seaweed. Tests include specific pathogens, chemicals, heavy metals, nutrients, and ecosystem services. Depending on how your kelp will be used, you may want to run additional tests or select a subset from the list. This document is a working draft and we'd love to hear your feedback! What do you test your kelp for? Feel free to comment directly on the doc with questions, edits, etc.

@grace_collery - Thank you! I haven't done a thorough look-see but does GW also have any advice on process for finding lab testing facilities by state?

@hilary_davis -  Thanks for your question! We do not currently have process recommendations for finding a lab, but it's great to know this would be a helpful resource so we can look into providing guidance. We've worked with Eurofins to test seaweed in the past, so you could see if they have facilities in your area.

@hilary_davis - GreenWave does have a lesson about water and tissue testing here if you haven't seen it, and in there is a link to a directory of labs. Hope that helps!

@grace_collery -   Are these LABS certified?   And I agree that a state by state list would be helpful.

Lab tests are usually very expensive.   A cost breakdown for the categories base on risk would benefit prioritizing according to health risk.
