Q. Site selection (worldwide) as a UK national

I have something like $70,000 in savings and am at the earliest stages of thinking about a mariculture project (seaweed, little to no relevant experience). I would be willing to re-locate to most places in the world. Has anyone got any thoughts or seen any good resources on country selection for different nationalities vis-a-vis permitting and other practical considerations?

Places I am currently considering for personal fit reasons include Washington/California US (where my partner is from), France (birthplace, possibility of getting citizenship), Taiwan/East China Sea (my Mandarin is okay and I've lived there before). I am a British national, moderately comfortable with financial insecurity, and quite good at building personal/professional networks.

@isla_gibson - Have you considered in your own back yard? Seaweed for Europe has a great resource on permitting if you haven't checked it out which covers the UK and France permitting information. I know Câr-y-Môr in Wales has been making a splash as well.

Re: California, there's a fair amount of posts in the community and also in the curriculum about the hurdles/challenges of setting up a farm there. You can read more about it and what permitting is like in Washington in GreenWave's permitting resource here.

    Hope that's helpful!
