Commercial Dockage in Connecticut
-
Hey everyone, we're in the preliminary stages of starting an ocean farming venture in Southern Connecticut. My family has a rich heritage of sailing and boating and we have been on the Long Island Sound coast for generations. We'd love to see Long Island Sound return to the biodiversity it used to have. We've been following Greenwave for several years now and are very excited about the launching of "The Hub". The slant of the waterfront communities in our area, which is essentially Greenwich to Bridgeport, is heavy on high end Yacht clubs and the like - what advice does the community have on finding commercial dock space for unloading our harvest? I'm trying to picture how you unload 100's of pounds of kelp off a boat without disrupting the neighbors.
@arthur_byrne -HI Arthur, wouldn’t your local, public town ramp allow for periodic offloads?
@todd_azadian - Thanks for the reply. That's probably not a bad place to start and definitely worth looking into, but I'm thinking If we wanted to incorporate shellfish into our farm we might need a more scalable solution. There's a lot of leasable water plots nearby, both state and municipal, but finding a place to dock seems to be the limiting factor for our site selection. I'm planning on contacting the harbormaster in our city and finding out if he has any advice.
