My name is Dan, and I live in NYC. I am interested in investing in the blue economy, particularly in kelp farms, and in helping to connect kelp farmers with viable and sustainable sources of funding. Looking forward to meeting you all!
@daniel_rauchwerk - Hi Daniel, I am interested in finding a partner (financial, active or both) to start this project. I just bought a place on the Damariscotta river, in South Bristol Maine last fall. I am a complete newbie but have a dock, a small whaler and all the time in the world as I just retired. If you’re interested please let me know.
@todd_azadian - Nice to meet you! I'd be happy to connect you with a regenerative agriculture funding platform that I use. I have met the founder and some employees, and they're doing really great work. Can you shoot me an email with details on your farm so I can provide an intro? DRauchwerk@gmail.com

Hi Dan, I am a marine scientist, mariner, and coastal resource practitioner. I grew up in coastal New Jersey and have lived on the west coast for over a decade. I'm currently exploring possibilities for starting a kelp farm in central/northern CA. Would love to chat and learn from you! Can I shoot you an email to set up some time? Would you mind sharing the funding resource platform that you referenced in your comment to Todd? Cheers!
@cori_currier -Hi Cori! I am also from Coastal NJ originally (Monmouth County.) Would love to meet you if you want to email me at drauchwerk@gmail.com to set up time to talk. The platform I referenced is called Steward. I'd be happy to provide an intro!
Hello Daniel, I am an avid supporter of ocean farming who also lives in NYC who is interested in pursuing a career in the future in this field. As a result, a potential partnership with you would be highly beneficial in enabling this process to occur. Thank you and I hope you consider this message!
@daniel_rauchwerk - Hello Daniel, I have been following Bren (Fellow NFDLER) and Green wave for years. Love what they are doing and building this industry. I'm currently in Panama and looking to start a project here and or in NL, Canada. We (Ocean Builders) have been looking at growing algae for biofuels, yet also for Fertilizer (Seems to be rising demand for such) If you are interesting in investing in either Panama or Newfoundland drop us a line. and we'll set it up craigglewis@gmail.com
@gabriel_riley - Hi Gabriel, nice to meet a fellow New Yorker who shares my interest in kelp farming! Can you shoot me an email at drauchwerk@gmail.com? I'd love to set up some time to connect.
@daniel_rauchwerk - One thing that I would like to point out is that if New Yorkers were to conduct kelp farming based operations, I believe that the most lucrative opportunity present for a company would be to sell the kelp as poultry feed. This is because most poultry facilities are stationed on the East Coast in the South Eastern US and Delmarva Peninsula. However, in order for an operation to work, one would have to first, produce large quantities of kelp, and second, one would have to make the price for kelp poultry feed very low in order to appeal more to agribusiness companies that typically utilize corn or soybean based diets.
@gabriel_riley - That's an interesting point. It may be the case, but I wouldn't want to personally support growing kelp as animal feed. I'd like to see kelp used to fill the human food production gap in the coming years.
@daniel_rauchwerk - I understand where you are coming from, but through transitioning most farms from corn and soybean based diets to kelp based diets, we will be able to potentially free up 33% of all of the world's farmland used to grow livestock feed to be utilized to grow food for humans; thus bridging the food gap you described previously.
?
@daniel_rauchwerk - might you also be interested in connecting with fellow investors? I see you mentioned a funding platform. Let me know, thanks!
I am in a similar situatuon to you. I live in NYC and would like to invest in a Kelp farm. Did you have any luck finding a suitable partner? I see there were a couple responses below. Did anything end up working out? Thanks so much for the help here.
@hayden_ivatts -HI Hayden, I have not started yet. Just moved to Maine this Spring and got the oysters started first. Plan to look into the kelp farm seriously over the winter with the aim of somehow marrying the two (if it’s possible??).
@todd_azadian - Thats' great to hear. I would definitely be interested in connecting and hearing about your experience so far. Also be interested in discussing a potential partnership if you are open to it. I am happy to provide my contact information if you would like to chat over email or phone.
