We want to create a marine reserve to regenerate an area of the Galician coast adjacent to the Arousa estuary. Within this reserve, we plan to establish a seaweed farm to provide employment for shellfish gatherers who will no longer be able to fish there. We have the necessary contacts to facilitate this project and are looking for an experienced farmer interested in expanding their horizons in Spain.

Hello, first of all, thank you for your interest. We formed a group after watching the documentary series Hope! Still on Time, where we learned about Greenwave's work. We would like to establish a marine reserve in the Aguiño-Corrubedo area of Ribeira (A Coruña, Spain) to allow for the regeneration of local species. To make the reserve productive and provide employment for shellfish gatherers who will no longer be able to work there, we would like to create a farm based on the Greenwave model.

We don't yet have a website, but we hope to create one soon. The project aims to establish a marine reserve where an algae farm can be located, with two objectives: first, to regenerate the area's marine species, and second, to develop an economic activity that replaces the harvesting of endangered species and provides an alternative for local shellfish gatherers. The Ariño Fishermen's Association has a large stretch of coastline where the reserve and the farm could be located, particularly in the Corrubedo area. Specifically, we need a professional in the sector interested in joining forces with us to carry out the project.

Para entender mejor en qué punto estáis (y qué necesitáis), tengo algunas dudas: ¿ya tenéis pensado qué especies os gustaría cultivar? ¿Tenéis un sitio concreto en mente o información previa de que la zona tiene buenas condiciones de crecimiento?
Lo estáis planteando como un piloto que pueda escalar con el tiempo, o más bien como un proyecto de renaturalización con poca o ninguna cosecha. ¿Tenéis ya algún documento breve que explique la visión del proyecto?
Si os sirve, estaré encantada de poneros en contacto con redes o gente relevante cuando el enfoque esté un poco más claro. Y a nivel personal, me encantaría seguir cómo evoluciona ya que soy de España y es genial ver iniciativas así en Galicia.

El lugar concreto sí, la Cofradía de Ariño en Ribeira (Coruña) dispone de un litoral bastante amplio y hay una zona, cerca de Corrubedo, donde nos gustaría poder crear una reserva marina para regenerar las especies que, debido a la sobre-explotación, se están extinguiendo. Para contrarrestar el que los mariscadores ya no puedan faenar hemos pensado crear una granja de algas en la reserva para, además de facilitar que se regenere la zona, que se genere una producción en la que sí se pueda desarrollar un trabajo y se pueda generar empleo en la zona.
