It’s fast approaching that time of the year, when we start putting gear back on the farm and getting ready for plant out. We have put our anchors and longlines out on our Branford CT farm site, ready for mid October planting!

    Hello!
My name is Rayna Ferlin and I am a senior in highschool in Devens MA. As seniors here we research a topic of our choice and I have chosen to study the process of making biomaterial from algae. Kelp being brown algae has been a focused of the starting of my project so I can understand the harvest and growth process.
I am looking for collaborators who might be willing to take me on their farms and show me the process as they grow and eventually harvest their kelp.
I would love to connect with you and work with you if possible.
    Thank you,
    Rayna Ferlin

@rayna_72 Stonington Kelp Co. in Connecticut and Spartan Sea Farms in Maine are just a couple of independent operations in the Northeast that offer farm tours for a fee. You might be interested in connecting with farmers at the Northeast Aquaculture Conference and Expo (NACE), in Portland, ME in January. @michael_doall at Stony Brook University on Long Island is a part of a materials-related project out of Pratt University and may have some insights or advice as well 🙂

    Best of luck!
