UAF Grad student in search of Sugar Kelp (Saccharina latissima) samples for research.
-
Hey Y'all!
I am a graduate student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks who is studying fucoidan, a polysaccharide found in brown kelp species that has been shown to possess some great medicinal properties. I am trying to reach out to kelp farmers in Southern Alaska (particularly in/around Seward, Kodiak, Cordova, Ketchikan, and/or Juneau), in hopes of obtaining sugar kelp samples on an every-other-month basis during as much of the year as practical.
As far as these samples go, I am looking for either 1-2 pounds of frozen sugar kelp or 20-30 grams of dried sugar kelp. I will pay for these samples! If you want, I am willing to share my findings with you too!
I already have contact with a kelp farm in Homer, but I am still looking for 2-3 more farms to obtain samples from. This sampling strategy is meant to be flexible, I am willing to hear your concerns and make changes to suit your needs.
If you are interested, please contact me via email as soon as possible!
@cam_hughes2841 @lindsay_olsen or @sam_gar would either of you have recommendations for samples?
