We are starting to deploy our gear out on the Thimble Islands in Branford CT it’s an exciting and busy time on the water. I recently rigged up a system to single hand the anchor release off the rail of Mookie our work boat. By using a 2 part loop around the center pick point I can lower the anchor and not trap a line down below.

That's a nice approach and a good use of that pick point purposely placed at the balance point. When chain is used between the achor and the mooring line, the shank will obviously be weighted down somewhat. Still, by lowering that way the positioning can be more precise and the flukes have a good chance of properly digging.
