Recently we were wondering about the different material properties of 1/2” hydropro (sink) and GreenWaves’ seed string specifically their stretch pattern, memory and elasticity. According to mfg spec hydropro 1/2” has up to 18% stretch. the we wanted to test the seed string and compare the results. Seed string tested at around 20% after a couple tests. averaging 80’ stretch over a 400’ span. This detail might be important when re-tensioning long lines during the grow season. There was some discussion about breaking seed sting by exceeding its tensile strength/ stretch profile. It seems from these observations that that should not be considered a serious issue.

@ben_kelsey8244 Thanks for sharing! What did you use to stretch and measure the string and line? Was this hand tensioned or did you stretch the line and string in another way? Any sense of pounds of force?

@kendall_barbery I just set up a pull test in the parking lot and saw how far the line would stretch before it failed with my own strength. Wasn’t huge amount of force but a considerable amount of elasticity.
