Hey hey from the UK
-
Hiya! Stoked to have joined and have all these resources available to help me start my journey! I'm an outdoor activity instructor in Devon, South West England and have been super interested in the conservation spillover benefits of ocean farming. My hope is to start a farm that encourages the recovery of local wildlife species and use this as a platform to promote education and tour guide opportunities in North Devon. A bonus would be to create a commercially viable fund, so fingers crossed!
Looking to connect with similar people in the UK so we can learn, make mistakes and grow together! :)
@kerr_jeferies -Hey, I'm also based in the UK and am super interested in the ecological benefits of seaweed farming alongside the feeding the planet aspect. Was something I came across and got interesting in researching through lockdown. I'm nowhere close to putting anything in the water but done a fair bit of reading with thinking about the medium to long term.
You by any chance going to the Seaweed Academy launch up at SAMS next week?
Luke
@luke_reynolds -wish I could, but planning to catch up virtually after work on Tuesday! It's a really exciting time and happy to connect. That means you're based North of the wall then?
Not sure if it's of interest, but beyond the books it's been pretty cool exploring making seaweed products from wild harvested materials... although I'm definitely taking up too much space (and smell) in the kitchen apparently haha
Hi Luke & Kerr, I'm another budding aquaculture farmer based in the UK too..
I'm down in Kent and I've identified a site and made my first application to the UK MMO, but that was pushed back as they now have a new online interactive tool that launched April 2022.
I'd be more than happy to share the knowledge and experience I've gathered so far, and hopefully they're be more of us UK lot joining in the new future.
After reading you posts I just signed up for the Virtual SAMS event which I wasn't aware of. So thanks for that.
Take care, Rich.

Hello Both,
I'm currently based in the Leeds area, so a bit land locked but grew up on the sout coast.
Richard, would be keen to catch up at some point and chat about your experience. Didn't realise the MMO had a new tool out will have to have a play. Enjoy the live stream today/recording later.
First session is about to start.
Luke
