Looking for experience and opportunities to learn kelp hatchery in person
-
I'm very interested in starting my own hatchery. I found this through a family member who's thought it sounded perfect for me. Right now I'm seeking opportunities to learn and get involved immediately. I'm willing to relocate. Currently in Oregon. Originally from RI, I love the ocean and seafood is my favorite food group. I love the idea of growing and farming kelp because it satisfies my environmentalist inclinations and fits with my values and lifestyle. Also as a nutritionist I like the idea of providing nutritious food for people. My past life was in healthcare. Did a variety of tasks and basically ended up running a clinic on my own. My favorite part was the lab work, I really enjoyed managing the day-to-day operations and learning how everything works. Now I am in transition and seeking a course of action that more closely aligns with my core values. I would love any support or advice you have to offer for getting started and I'm looking forward to connecting and seeing what we can accomplish.
@melissa_keith60 Hi, I setup a “hatchery” in my garage. I put hatchery in quotes as it was a few fish tanks and a couple hundred dollars worth of equipment. I was hoping to plant it all last fall but didnt secure my permit. I put a spool out in the water to see if it would grow which it did. The hatchery will be more pro this fall. I’m no expert but I can tell you about what I did Feel free to reach out
