Anyone selling seaweed direct-to-consumer?
-
Hi All,
My name is Reese and I'm in Santa Barbara, California.
Very curious to learn if anyone is selling seaweed online today, or intends to.
Regulations in California are tough. As much as I'd like to start a farm, it isn't very feasible today. Hopefully in the future.
However, I have some experience in the ecommerce industry helping brands sell millions of dollars a year online and know Shopify inside and out.
Would love to hear your thoughts on selling seaweed products DTC!
Email is in my profile 🙂
@reese_hammerstrom Welcome Reese! FYI I've moved your question to the processing + markets topic for great visibility.
@jwhis thank you!

Hi @reese_hammerstrom - Thanks for your question! Regulations in California can definitely be a challenge. I'm not sure if you've looked at GreenWave's CA permitting guide, but you might find it interesting. There are currently brands selling seaweed DTC in California, such as Daybreak and Kelpful. Given the farming bottleneck in CA, they typically work with farmers in other locations or wild-harvest seaweed. There are also national brands like Barnacle Foods and Atlantic Sea Farms who ship products to consumers in California and elsewhere.
Hi @grace_collery - thanks for sharing those brands, appreciate it!
