Visiting a seaweed farm

    Hello Ocean Farmers,
I am into seaweed since I read Eat Like a Fish and watched some videos. I would really like to visit a seaweed farm and also help where possible during the visit. I am based in the Boston Area (visiting until December) but definitely willing to catch a bus/train. I have helped on land-based farms before.
    Thank you!

@magnus_schauf Hi! I am in a similar situation. I've been obsessed with the idea of kelp farming since reading Bren's book but have yet to see a fully functioning farm in person. I've also assisted in growing seaweed on land and done some work on a prototype ocean farm but I'm dying to see a farm setup with a business. I live in San Diego and I am willing definitely to travel. If you hear about anything lmk!

@magnus_schauf Here's a couple farms below that I'm aware offer tours. Keep in mind that kelp is a seasonal crop with outplanting happening in the fall and then harvest happening sometime in the spring. If you're looking to see kelp growing on lines, expect to visit a farm sometime in the range between January-June. Especially if you want to see larger blades, aim for later in that time frame.
Note that even though some are oyster companies, they also grow kelp!
