Hello from the SF Bay Area

    Hi everyone,

I'm new to this community and am looking forward to immersing myself into this industry.  I live in Oakland, CA and it seems like there are some significant regulatory roadblocks to getting an aquaculture farm permitted in CA.  It seems like there may be some opportunity for permittable sites in southern CA near the Santa Barbara region, but I haven't been able to find any info about northern CA.

Does anyone have any more info about permitting in CA?  I am keenly interested on getting into the industry, be it farming / processing / or helping in other areas.   My background is in mechanical engineering, so I am also wondering if there gaps in any current technology or processes that someone like myself could help improve.

    Thanks!

    Azhar

@azhar_meyer - Welcome! It looks like you've already checked out this post California Seaweed Permitting. Is there something more you're looking for? Hope you and Pedro can meet up!

@jwhis -Hi Julia, I'm still doing a bunch of research to better educate myself about the space, working out a business plan, and working out siting logistics.  I already have lots of questions, and as I read and learn more... I come with with endless more questions!

One question I have is -- are there any non-vertically integrated kelp processing plants in California?  I am trying to understand where there are (or where there will be gaps) in the space in the coming years and it seems like this might be one of them.
