Any science/experience with using the slime as soil amendment?

Wondering if anyone might have insights on whether the slime (the tube-dwelling diatoms) offers soil amendment benefits like kelp? I know drying it is STINKY, like funky stinky and the smell really lingers even when it's dried rock solid. Before saving it next season and giving to farms, I thought I would check to see if it's worth saving, drying and giving out. I assume it has load of nitrogen in it but not sure what else

@azure_cygler -Diatoms are good for diatomaceous earth--their glass bodies make a good, non-toxic insecticide. Dunno if it's feasible to try to process the diatoms from a kelp harvest into DE, but it sounds like a cool idea to me!
