Connecting with Ocean Farmers in Maine

Hello! I hope to start a shellfish and kelp farm in Maine (specifically Southern Maine) and would love to connect with new and experienced farmers in the area. I would be happy to work for/learn from/be in community with some of you! Or if you're not in the area but know of folks I should reach out to, I would love those recommendations. My partner and I are not currently in the area but will be moving back to the area in May of 2023.

@madi_whaley - Welcome! Maine is a great place to start an ocean farm -- the state has a wealth of supportive resources for new farmers including the Maine Aquaculturist site and the Aquaculture in Shared Waters course. I've heard many current farmers rave about this multi-week course that helps folks figure out the landscape for starting an ocean farm in Maine -- definitely keep it on your radar! If you're looking for on-farm experience I'd suggest posting something to the Bulletin Board of the community around October of 2022 or March of 2023 to see if anyone is in need of help for seeding or harvest. I'll let you know if I hear of anyone looking!
