California farm

    Hi everyone! I’m Mike and live in Los Angeles CA.

    Has anyone been able to successfully start a farm in California? It seems like the permitting costs are prohibitively expensive. Happy to hear if anyone has a success story here.

    @mike_ellis - CA has a broken permitting process. We held a conference in 2018 at Moss Landing Marine Labes to being to address this. We had a follow-up event planned for 2020 and it didn't happen. Now we are hoping to make something happen in 2023. We probably need a coalition for restorative aquaculture (RA) in CA to successfully lobby to make RA permitable. Feel free to reach out to me at k.mueller@yahoo.com

    Sincerely,

    Karsten Mueller MS, PhD

    @karsten_mueller -good afternoon. I too am on the Santa Monica bay area and would be very interested in any info that pertains RA in the local waters. I am considering going north where RA is taking hold. Thank you  for your time.

    @karsten_mueller -

    Hey Dr. Mueller,

    Is the issue more with the Fish and Game Commission or the Coastal Commission?

    Do you have any insight into the use of Federal waters for RA?  Or would this be too far from the continental shelf to practically anchor a farm/forest?
