Looking for article suggestions and and an interview participant
-
Hi all,
I am hoping to officially start my farming journey in a few years, but in the meantime I am completing my biology degree with courses that compliment my goals such as Entrepreneurship 100: Introduction to Entrepreneurship.
We need to do weekly readings, which can be of our choice, on entrepreneurial ventures, which will eventually contribute to our final project. I was hoping for some suggestions from the community on ocean farming related topics - feel free to plug your own business too! I'll read it! If there is interest, I'm also happy to share my final annotated bibliography document with all of the articles I have read and their accompanying summary of important points and takeaways.
Lastly, my first project is to interview an entrepreneur and write 500 words on what I learned about an entrepreneurial mindset, key takeaways, and how I will follow up. I expect it to take 15-30 minutes over Zoom depending on whether answers come as a couple of sentences or whole stories. I would like to record the call for my own review while writing; it will not be used for anything else. If anyone is interested, please reply, and I will share the set of questions I have put together.
Thanks in advance,
Lyndsay
@lyndsay_silvestre -Hi Lyndsay, I might be able to help you out with this. I am a kelp farmer in Kodiak, AK but the small business I have direct marketing a portion of the Wild AK salmon we catch as salmon fishermen would be what I would speak to regarding the entrepreneurial mindset. Let me know if you want to set something up.
Adelia
@adelia_myrick -Thank you very much for your reply and offer to interview. I would love to speak with you - what days/times work best for you? My schedule is pretty flexible aside from set commitments Wednesday and Friday evenings. Is Zoom a good platform for you?
These are the questions I have written out so far, but I will be adding/removing some in the coming days:
What sparked your interest in this field?
What made you decide to start a business? Was there a specific moment or catalyst you can speak to?
Did you have any kind of preparation or idea where you were going before you jumped in to it?
How many years until you started seeing profits?
How much seed money did it take?
What did your friends and family think?
What was your biggest challenge?
Could you tell me about a time things didn’t go as planned? Was that ever a good thing? Did it ever really throw a wrench in your plans?
What motivates you to keep going?
What scares you?
What is your biggest personal success or favourite story about starting and running your business?
@adelia_myrick -Hey Lyndsay, sounds good! Please email me at adelia.myrick1@gmail.com so we can set something up.
