Greetings from the Chesapeake Bay

Hi. I know that Greenwave is primarily focused on growing kelp, but I'm in the (very) early stages of launching a pilot program growing Ulva Lactuca. I've had success cultivating a wild sample in brackish waters in a bay tributary, and now I'm working to develop methods for seeding lines or nets for a real farm.
I'm excited to collaborate with anyone in the Chesapeake or DC Metro areas.
@frank_plew Welcome Frank. Very interesting to hear about your experiments with Ulva. Are you working on your pilot through a research partnership or as a solo venture? Curious to hear what you learn!
@lindsay_olsen -Hi Lindsay. I'm currently working on a solo venture. I've been lucky enough to have a family friend with waterfront property who doesn't mind me floating a few things off their dock. Very small scale right now. Maryland doesn't have a process right now for permitting macroalgae aquaculture, and the backlog for shellfish permits is about 2 years from what I understand. So right now I'm trying to get some contacts at DNR and possibly find an existing shellfish operation who might like to partner on a more intensive pilot program.

Hey Frank,
We’re just getting interested in seaweed farming and are thinking of moving to the Chesapeake area and starting a farm. Have you had any luck with the permit process yet? Any other species that you’re aware of that grow in the warmer waters of the Chesapeake?
Thanks,
Alissa
