Creating a clean working environment for culture maintenance is essential to prevent contamination of cultures. A dirty work bench, non-sterile equipment, and even dirty air can all be sources of contamination. Many of the pieces of equipment used to create a clean working space can be purchased second hand. The most important things to have for lab work with gametophytes are ethanol, gloves, a culture chamber with red lights, and a clean bench space. Ethanol and gloves are easy to come by, but here we will talk about some larger equipment that will prove handy when working in your lab space.
