Creating mixed cultures from sorus releases is the fastest way to upscale your gametophyte collection. However, mixed cultures present some risks of contamination. If the sorus is prepared properly in the earlier stages, contamination is of lower concern, but it is difficult to ensure no contamination when working with wild material.
