Once you’ve gotten all of your equipment, you’ll need to configure your lab space. This layout will look different for everyone depending on your available space and production goals. In a lab space that can’t be separated from your nursery, you’ll have to put more emphasis on cleaning the air and surfaces. Although, we strongly recommend that these spaces be separate. Another consideration to take into account is your production goals. Designing a lab space that will fit your production goals for multiple years will save headaches later on. Lastly, keep in mind that minor details can have a big impact on the end goal and you should build in safeguards, like temperature sensors that are networked connected and will alert when temperatures deviate from a target range. GreenWave uses Glacier Grid for this. Always research before using a new material with your cultures or check the Hub Community for similar questions from other nursery operators. Keep in mind there can be significant differences between materials that are visually similar like vinyl and silicone and many plastic additives can be toxic to marine life, even in small concentrations.
