Stage Your Hatchery

After all the equipment you purchased has arrived, you’ll want to stage your hatchery. Essentially, following the guidelines of your blueprint drawing, arrange your shelving, tanks, chillers, and other components in their planned locations. Then walk around the space and assess its functionality.

Ask Yourself
  • Is it easy to move around?

  • Are valves, outlets, and other switches accessible?

  • Are your tanks at a height where your spools are easily accessible?

  • Are all electrical outlets and plugs away from wet places like overflow/spill zones?

  • Is there enough room between the tanks and light source to allow ventilation of heat?

  • Will you be able to easily add and remove spools from your culture tanks?

You want to make sure your set-up is as easy to use as possible; you’ll be spending a lot of time there! Don’t be afraid to adjust as needed – identifying and rectifying any issues before you prep your materials for their permanent placement will make life a lot easier.
