Anchor Line to Growline

These images show the connection points at the working end of the anchor line, near the surface.

Using a single-line array, the simplest way to fasten your growlines to your anchor lines is by tying a butterfly knot to create a loop. Then you can either tie a bowline directly to that loop or add in a double-eyed pigtail to this loop and tie the growline to the pigtail. The use of the pigtail helps create an access point to your growline, so you can reach it at high tide when the system is under tension.

A pigtail can be used to connect the growline to the anchor line.

GreenWave Tip

On the GreenWave farm, we use a mix of single-line and 5-line arrays. To standardize our array components, we’ve integrated a c-link connection into our single-line arrays, as well as the 5-line arrays. While c links are typically only used in 5-line array systems, we’ve found it simpler to use this connection point across all our arrays. If you’re just starting out, you can use a bowline knot to connect your growline to your anchor line, which will allow you to adjust the length and take up slack over the course of the season.

An alternative growline connection is to splice a c link into both the pigtail and the growline.

A pigtail and c-link connection can also be used to connect the anchor line to the growline.
