Back to: Monitoring Growth
It’s very valuable to keep records of hatchery maintenance and activities so that you can refer to what you’ve already done. The hatchery season is a blur, with lots of repeated tasks, and it’s easy to forget what you did when. Knowing what has been done from day to day will help you avoid repeating chores (a waste of time and resources) and making mistakes, such as putting dirty items into a sterile tank.
From season to season, documentation of troubleshooting efforts can be an important reference. For example, if you see contamination within your tanks and record how you were successful at eliminating it, you’ll have an easy reference if you see the same issue in the future.

Finally, if you are testing anything new—such as a sorus collection site, stocking density, or nutrient addition—you can compare how it performs to past seasons and make informed decisions as to whether or not to implement these changes in the future.
